Puppies have arrived!

It was certainly a long and sleepless night for Moxie, our golden labrador and I. She started contracting on the night of the 30th and finally gave birth to her first little one at 6:31am, Dec 31st. It was quite the birthday and new years eve morning gift!!! Well, by noon she had her 9th puppy - yes 9th! Wow, she is exhausted but such a good mommy. They are gorgeous see pictures below...

Few foster homes needed

Need a few foster homes from February 1st to 20th. Let us know if you wish to help out in any way by either commenting on this post or calling 613-834-7005. We will be helping out on a seizure and may also need foster homes from now until the court date - few months! We will assess the dogs before fostering and if the SPCA wins in court - there will be a possibility to adopt them! More details to come on this post over the weekend!

Did you know about Pounds?

If you live in the country or small town and have lost your dog - did you know you likely have a pound? Call your city or township to find out where your dog is held. You only have 3 days to get them home safely from the pound - otherwise they will be euthanized. For Ottawa we have the Ottawa Humane Society but for other small towns like Rockland for example - they have their own pound! Get your pooch quickly before it is too late...

Paint needed

Your old cans of pait will surely help us in painting our doggy mobile home. Doesn't matter what colour or how much of it you have - we will mix them together with others donated to make the colours we need. We are still finishing the drywall and starting with putty but will be needing some paint very shortly!

Thanking all our Volunteers!

We would like to thank every person who has helped NARC in any way... Thank you to Anne and Don for coming almost every weekend to help with the mobile home - trust me - they deserve more than thanks for everything they have done. To the boys who came to drywall the ceiling, my brother Gaetan and people who dropped off donations so we could work on! It is hard work and things most of our volunteers didn't know how to do but they managed! Insulation itching our skin while we are crawling under the mobile home to install plastic, insulation and black paper - dust getting in our eyes... In the end, it will all be worth it and the doggies plus volunteers will certainly appreciate coming in to work and playing for a change. Watching TV while sitting on the couch and cuddling our poochies - making coffee or hot chocolate on a cold winter day staring at the horses playing outside through the beautiful bay window - it will certainly be heaven for ALL!

Manual Labour help needed & Construction materials

Michèlle has paid to move a mobile home for NARC and is also trying to get it up and running... It is very costly (buying drywall, insulation, screws, flooring, etc...). We need volunteers who know a bit about drywalling, puttying, etc... to help get this doggy home finished so that NARC can expand and rescue more dogs and of course other pets! If you are handy and can help in any way - give us a call at 613-834-7005 or just show up on weekends between 12n to 5pm to lend a hand. We can also get you working during the week if you have time - we would just need to coordinate it somehow. Volunteering is always a good thing - it helps the community and non-profit companies such as ours and is greatly appreciated by all!

Drivers and volunteers always needed

NARC often has to drive to Montreal, Kingston, Ottawa and surrounding areas to pick up dogs or donations. Ottawa for donations and other locations to pick up rescues from either the SPCA's, Humane Societies or other rescues we are helping! If you have a reliable car, are willing to spend a day driving for us - give us a call! Need a valid driver's license and a police check! There are many rescues out there needing NARC's help and we can't provide that as we don't have the support to pick them up - definitely need your help with this! Most pick-ups are scheduled on a weekend (saturday) so that it doesn't disturb your work week. We have all of the West of Ottawa (Kingston, Thunder Bay, Bellville, etc...) calling upon us to help although we just don't have the power nor the people right now! Please help us in taking these dogs off death row and giving them a chance at LIVING! Too many pets are put down daily - we can help if we all put our heads together!

Why go to a rescue? Compare prices!

Do your research, adopt a rescue before purchasing a puppy/dog elsewhere. We get many different breeds, puppies, most are purebreed for a very good price - do the comparison... Puppies/dogs usually cost $400 or more. That price usually doesn't include vet check, shots, neuter/spay, etc... Here at NARC, or any other reputable rescue, you will adopt a dog/puppy for a lesser price and including the spay/neuter (if they are of appropriate age), rabies, annual vet check, dewormers, advantage and so much more... At NARC, we also train your puppy or dog before re-homing them and many have received dental cleaning or other costly surgeries! Help us in saving lives and adopt a rescue today!

AVERAGE COST from a breeder or elsewhere: puppy/dog cost $400, Spay $300 or Neuter $240, Rabies $35, Annual vet check $50, 2 dewormers $40, advantage or multi-advantage $20, dental cleaning $350, hernia removal $250 and the list can go on and on... Call a veterinary today to see how much your dog will end up costing you! Why not go to a rescue for a lesser price?

Donations always needed

It is a great thing and such an amazing feeling to take an animal out of a miserable place, show them love, give them attention and prepare them for their forever home! All of our dogs come from death row, abusive situations or puppy mills, they have no clue what love is nor what living in a home environment is about! We are here to show them and transform them into the great little doggies they are! We love what we do but unfortunately need the public's support. Without people like you - we wouldn't be able to remain in business! You may drop off or send your donation to 4388 Navan Road, Navan, Ontario, K4B 1H9. Cheque payable to NARC or Navan Animal Rescue Corporation. View our website at www.narc-charity.ca to see what we are all about! THANK YOU in advance for your help with our loved little ones!
