Santa is coming to NARC

Join us this Saturday, December 17th from 1pm to 5pm, bring your kids and pooches as Santa will be there with his photographer to take nice pictures for you! $10 gives you a high quality link to the picture for printing anywhere, the chance to sit on Santa's lap one last time and of course helps our rescue takin in more dogs off death row and ables us to spay/neuter and vet them properly. Thanks to Coralie, who was actually in the Ottawa Citizen yesterday for her devotion to volunteering, she organized a cleaning and renovations crew to come to NARC on Saturday. It was amazing, 8 of her friends showed up, 2 were tearing apart the flooring, installing new plywood and tiles in one of our main doggy rooms, 2 were up on the roof tarping it for the winter, temporarily keeping NARC dry until we can afford a new roof hopefully next spring!? Few of the girls re-organized our supply trailer and others were just picking up and throwing debris in the bins while our volunteers took care of the dogs needs, food, water and walks... Next day, few of NARC volunteers came and helped finish what was already an amazing start, we organized another 2 sheds and threw out more debris and wood, put away the tables and chairs for the winter while Coralie returned with her husband to grout the tiles they installed the day before. What a weekend, the farm looks amazing, back to it's original cleanliness without debris from renovations lying around in piles... Thanks everyone for your help - it was wonderful to see and volunteers that came Sunday were amazed about all that had been done in just one day! Now we have more room for visitors to park and it's definitely better for our dogs with the new tiles in the back room. I am overjoyed about it all, it lifted a big weight off my shoulders knowing the dogs are living in a non mouldy room and freshly renovated and clean tiles. I don't even know how to thank everyone, all I could give back were hugs and thanks but you have certainly changed NARC for years to come!

Garage Sale Update - Lending a HAND next weekend!

We raised $580 for NARC this weekend at our Garage Sale, thank you everyone for your support and thank you all volunteers for your help with this event!

The renovations are still under-way, going well and definitely easier for us to maintain although we still have 2 rooms to tear apart, install plywood, tiles, etc... Anyone willing to donate some time and muscles to help out are more than welcomed.

We are also calling on everyone, all volunteers or anyone wanting to spend 1 or a few hours at NARC next weekend to clean up. We have garbage bins coming this weekend for the debris we've accumulated and need a few volunteers to fill them up - carry wood and debris into those bins. Come join us in our clean-up weekend at 4388 Navan Road from noon to 5pm both saturday and sunday Oct 29th and 30th.

Thanks again to everyone for their support - either it be from a volunteer, adtopter, donor, foster home, etc... If it wasn't for people such as yourselves, we wouldn't be able to take in and care for all the beautiful doggies you now either own, helped care for, have met at NARC or seen on our website! Bell finally came last night and fixed/installed our new permanent phone lines. For those that haven't received your pooches veterinary documentation, they are on their way. I bought a new scanner so will scan the documents and e-mail them this weekend. Sorry for the delay although if you hadn't received them by mail it was due to us not having your postal codes and not being able to search for them on-line! All is resolved though, we will be back on track with our files very shortly. Thank you everyone for your patience in this matter!

We will also be returning all the phone calls we weren't able to get to in the past few weeks without a phone line!! Sorry for the delay all...

Thanks again to the wonderful guys/volunteers who came to start the tiles last Monday, they are great and so easy to clean. We need a few more hands this weekend in order to finish the tiles in that room... if anyone is interested in donating some time, we will supply the materials...

Garage Sale October 22nd & 23rd - renovations started

If you have items to donate, drop them off this weekend as we are holding our garage sale on Oct 22nd & 23rd - weather permitting of course! All volunteers will be needed for this event and at NARC to care for the dogs so if you are free, come on by as we will need all the help we can get!

We have started renovations, a client and volunteer's husband were nice enough to come by yesterday, holiday Monday to tear off the old flooring in the living room and install the new tiles that were donated. We worked really hard on a nice hot day for our lovely doggies to have a new clean space to call home! We've noticed that the tiles we were accumulating were just enough to finish that room so we need more tiles in order to finish the other 2 doggy rooms in the modular home and hopefully the main entrance. I already had bought the plywood, grout, cement and sealer but are out of those items too for the next few rooms. If you have any spare tiles, we need them! Talk to friends and neighbors, if we all get together, we will be able to accumulate enough to finish the other two rooms and our dogs will have a clean and fresh environment to live in. We were all excited about this project, it was long overdue and certainly will last quite a few years coming!

Thank you so much for all of your support and for our wonderful volunteers who like me, dedicate their precious time so that we can take more dogs off death row and keep them in a nice, clean and safe environment! If it wasn't for your support - we wouldn't be where we are today - GROWING! Thank you...

Star has had 8 puppies

Her puppies were born Friday, September 30th in the morning. She gave us 8 beautiful and healthy puppies. She is a good and protective mom, is by her pups side all the time but does leave them to go on her nice long walks at the farm. They will be ready November 25th so if you are looking for a rottie puppy, it's now time to send in your applications from http://www.narc-charity.ca/ under downloads, we need a reference, preferably a vet if you already have one!

The other doggies are doing well although they were so dirty yesterday with all the rain - worst than ever! I've never seen the house so dirty with mud everywhere! Most of them will certainly need a bath this weekend - yet some managed to keep very clean such as Matic - he is such a cute and good dog and always the cleanest of the bunch!

We've had a few matted dogs come in as you have probably seen from the website and are getting them the much needed groom, we will post after pictures for you to see how cute they really are underneath all those clumps!

We've lost our house cat, with client visits, volunteers in and out and door remaining opened, he has dissapeared on us. We've been looking for him everywhere in hopes to bring him back home safe! Smartie is our white indoor gorgeous baby with black ears and black spots on his nose and face, few on his hind legs too. He is a sweetie, loves to be loved and certainly doesn't mind being carried around. He will come if you call him, say his name and he usually runs to you. We want our sucky baby back!!! Please, if you do see him do call or e-mail us so we can pick him up - he is probably very scared and when he is, his greenest eyes become very wide! He is not the type to stray, he had never seen outside in the 2.5 years we've had him except this summer, few steps outside in the big bad world and now he's gone.. He is neutered, etc... so wouldn't have wandered for female companionship!

It has been a very long summer not having a phone 3/4's of the time - well full time for us as it seems to always be going down at night when it's time to return client's phone calls. We are sorry but there is not much we can do - unless all of you call Bell and COMPLAIN so that they fix the problem permanently. It's all of Navan Road from 10th Line to Trim, all of our neighbours are complaining yet - still our phone lines are down... So, that being said, please e-mail if you want an immediate response as we won't be able to return your phone calls that promptly without phone lines! Thanks for understanding!

We are closed this saturday, September 24th, 2011 but will be opened Sunday from 1pm to 3:30pm during our regular summer hours. In a few months, we will return to appointments only due to the lack of room in the mobile home for pop-ins. Summer is almost done, meeting clients outside won't be an option any longer in approx one month so back to appointments during winter months!

7 new arrivals this morning!

7 new doggies have joined us this morning, few shih-tzu's, a female Boston Terrier and 2 shaggy looking dogs - will groom and see what they are - look like maltese! One of our shih-tzu's is blind in one eye but has settled in nicely and is quite sweet!

We are still looking for ceramic tiles of any color or size, 1/4 or 1/2 plywood so we can start renovating the mobile home and change the much needed commercial tiles that is in place now! It will be our winter project but winter is soon arriving so any help is greatly appreciated!

8 new doggies have arrived from the pound today, they are in the clinic being dewormed, multi-advantage then will be introduced to their chosen pact mates. They will also be vetted this week, trained before posting up for adoption. One Daschund, 2 shih-tzus, 2 maltese, one terrier, one Lhasa Apso and one Yorkie-Poo.

We still need ceramic tiles, we are soon in the process of tearing this house apart and build our new ceramic floors everywhere - we need your support as it is very expensive. If you have some plywood we would also need quite a few sheets to get the job properly done! We need epoxy grout, cement - the works to install those tiles!

Also needed are leashes and collars, HUSKY cleaning products, comet, javex, paper towels in industrial quantities Ha! Ha! Thanks for your support, if it wasn't for all of you out there giving NARC a hand by purchasing or donating products, we wouldn't be able to survive!

Cats, Kittens for adoption - desperately needing homes!

Ladies and Gentlemen.... A neighbor is nice enough to be feeding approx 20 cats and kittens who are all strays in Navan/NDC. If you are looking for a cute kitten or wonderful cat, please give us a call as we are desperately in search of homes for this lovely bunch. The couple came to plead for help and of course, our big hearts can't just leave those cats and kittens, pregnant mothers or mothers with litters outside without shelter or a home to call HOME! Talk to friends, family, anyone looking for a lovely little kitten now or soon ready for some loving. If you can take a pregnant female or a female with kittens until you can find them all homes, this is also needed. This couple is nice enough to be feeding and caring for all these cats/kittens, let's get together and try to place them in forever homes. All the rescues are too full to be able to take them in, we are trying to see with other rescues but I know that they are, as us, quite full and overwhelmed with animals... Pass the word around, tell everyone to contact NARC - these are all free to loving homes. We are helping the family with food, flea treatment and whomever takes a kitten or cat, we are offering a dewormer doze (Strongid-T) here at NARC! Anything to help these beautiful and friendly creatures in finding good homes.

The Navan Fair Parade was a success again this year

We were part of the Navan Fair Parade again this year and it was a great success! We brought 7 of our NARC pooches for the walk, they had a lot of fun and met tons of new people. They did such a great job! We brought Mia, Blaze, Scotch, Kaliar, Boots, Simon and Peet. Of course that weekend Pete, Mia, Kaliar and Simon found a home which was wonderful for them and our clients. They know these dogs passed the Navan Fair Parade event which means they were our best and quietest dogs, those that we know won't be too surprised with all the noise, horses, police sirens, etc... If only we had more room so we could bring the larger breeds - next year we'll have to figure something out and bring the larger dogs with us! I know for sure that Sasha, Bart, Trix and Balou would have been wonderful and would certainly have enjoyed the event! If we can get a float for this winter, we'll try to get on board for the Christmas Winter Parade in Orleans. Certainly need a float as our doggies won't be able to stand the cold winter weather for a whole hour but on hay - that's another story - they'll have their feet warm and will be able to lay in the hay for warmth too! Let's try to make this happen!!!

From the doggies themselves, telling us how good a job we are doing...

I woke up late on Sunday morning, usually get woken up by the doggies around 6:30-7am, telling me they want my company and attention... It was 9:30am, the house was so quiet and when I opened my eyes, I thought for sure it was probably around 5am. Looked at the clock to see 9:30am - wow so decided being that they were so quiet, I'd read a bit. 2 minutes passed and I realized, it was too quiet!!! Got up to see what they were up to - like kids - you know they must be up to something... Well, the living room was empty so figured it was funny that they were all outside and yet so quiet. Looked out the window and found the dog run completely empty - no doggies left and we are talking about 30 pooches here so my heart stopped beating and I FREAKED! I rushed to the front door and when I opened it, they were all out there in the front lawn basking in the sun and looking at me as in saying - IT's ABOUT TIME YOU WAKE UP! Most ran right in to see me and I went out looking for the others and they were all around, even the 2 beagles, Chester came running the moment he saw me and Jenesse was under my truck taking in the shade. I went to get Jenessee, Scotch, Casey and Boots but besides that every one of them had already run into the house. Amazing little beings, stayed on the property and waited for mommy to wake up - very happy to say we must be doing quite a good job for 30 dogs to stick around and not run!! Even the 2 beagles - quite amazing. Guess they are really comfortable at home and don't mind living with us until they find their permanent homes! Good doggies, you certainly got tons of praise and cookies for being there and not running away.

Our dog runs are 1 foot in the ground so very safe and we were sure they could never get out. We never anticipated one thinking of digging under the mobile home to get out... but that is what they did, dug a whole under the mobile home, walked underneath it and went out the front trap door which wasn't completely closed! Now, we have to put patio stones the length of the mobile home so they don't get that idea again! I've already started with the area they dug out and put bricks the length of the house until we can finish with the patio stones. Smart puppy - even outsmarted the humans!

Puppy mill dogs

Well, we are working hard with the pugs and others we've taken in from the puppy mill - they are quite scared and won't walk on the leash but - baby steps!! At least now they are wagging their tails when they see me althouh the moment I come near - oops - not too sure lol. They are now enjoying lots of attention and are a bit less freaked and stiff when I pick them up. In time, they will make really good pets, they are all so adorable and you can tell they all want to please so much! Poor females really were used and abused, they have had quite a few litters and you can really tell. I can't wait for them to be ready for their spay and neuters and never see the life of puppies again - unless it's someone elses!!! I took a few with me to the vet's this week while dropping off or picking up others - not to be seen - just for the car ride but to get them used to riding along with humans just for fun! Baby steps but one by one, they will come around.

We picked up a very sweet older maltese at the SPCA. Our wonderful volunteer driver went to Montreal to pick up 2 female and 2 male pugs, 1 male poodle, 1 female bishon, 1 female Shih-Tzu x Daschund, 1 male maltese and a male Chocolate Labrador. Quite the busy week for NARC and will be quite the busy next few weeks for our vet! This bunch from Montreal are from a puppy mill so they will need some training, grooming, lots of vetting before re-homing. So far so good although will need training on the "no barking in the house" and "no marking their territory". Big job ahead but in time, they will be ready for loving homes! We will hopefully post pictures and bios this weekend for you to see. Our volunteers will have their hands full in bathing and grooming these guys to get them ready for the vet's (spay & neuters) next week!

The other group from last weekend are already trained to live with their chosen pacts, are really nice and friendly so we are quite sure they will be able to leave us the moment they are spayed or neutered! Very sweet little ones!

New doggies are here!

Our wonderful volunteer went to the pounds for us late last week and brought back a male and female Daschund, male Chihuahua x JRT, male Shih-Tzu and a female Bishon Frisé. We've Multi-advantaged and dewormed them and will see the vet next week for spays and neuters, etc... They are adorable although two needed training for whinning too much, the chihuahua x JRT is so cute but was barking all night to be with us so we've trained him out of that and finally was able to have a restful sleep last night - YIPEE! The little Bishon is also a big whiner but we are working with her - bishon's are a bit more hard headed so a few more days of work and she will be fine. Yes, a lof of dogs arrive with separation anxiety but no worries, you won't be able to tell once they are ready for placement...

We also helped an SPCA by taking in a male Yorkie that may need his hind leg amputated, a male black Cocker Spaniel with eye and ear infections, a female tiny little Pomeranian who will be with us for a while due to possible ringworn and hair loss and a Female Corgi x Chihuahua. All very adorable and very young - Yorkie is only 3 months old and the Cocker and corgie between 6-8 months - pups!! The only one that is an adult is the pomeranian and they are all big sucks and so friendly. Already dewormed and multi-advantage, DHPP and Bordetella for these 4 babes! We are also going to receive a few more pooches Monday evening from the pound and SPCA so keep looking for updates. Funny dogs

It's summer and it's HOT but they seem to be enjoying their baby bath tubs and kids sand boxes full of water. Too funny to see them every night when it's hot, I rinse out the muddy yuk they left behind and replenish with very cold clean water and in they go!! Some just lay in the cold water with that look in their eyes saying "ahhhhhhhhh"! Of course, that makes them very dirty doggies but hey - if people don't get that they are having fun in their nice cold baths, then be it... Muddy and dirty dogs but happy and refreshed pooches! Now to train the big guys to get in the tubs - they don't seem to like it too much but they still get a hose down although I get it worst once they shove it all back on me!! Oh well, thank god for laundry machines lol. I've taken tons of pictures of wet dirty dogs just for the fun of it - I'll post them below for your enjoyment - sure my volunteers will hate me when they have to bathe all the dirty doggies this weekend with baked mud on their backs OOPS Hee! Hee! It wasn't me - it was the hose gone crazy - I swear!! I have to remember to bring the camera once I am filling the tubs just so you can see them lie down in it to refresh themselves - by the time watering and feeding is done - they are too so I see all the action but would like to share the beauty of it with you! Enjoy this heat guys as in a few months time - we will complain it's getting cold again - YUK - wish summer was forever!!

We picked up a few more dogs from pounds and SPCA's last week and this weekend, we are posting them on the website tonight with pictures and bios - have a look if there is a doggy in the window for you!!!

New doggies are here - great weekend!

What a beautiful and HOT weekend! I'm loving every minute of it but the doggies just kept in the shade today - they don't know what they are missing - I surely got a great tan going on Ha! Ha!

We have a few new arrivals, a gorgeous brindle female Dingo who our volunteer says is a LOT of FUN, a cute little male Brussels Griffon who loves being carried, a tiny little male maltese x who seems to be devocalized but very sweet and friendly, a friendly male black schnauzer x who is very quiet, another big sucky baby german sheppard x rottie? who's quiet and so nice, a male Jack Russel Terrier who loves to run outside, and a female Heinz 57 looks like boxer face but certainly small dog - dashund long body - really mixed but cute and so sweet! Most have gotten baths today and were great with the volunteers, all have been on few walks and were great with everyone they have met. They are in training to live with different pacts, few are already fitting in very nicely and sharing with the others already! They will be vetted this week and next week as there is quite a few here still awaiting to see the vet and then ready for adoption once trained! We'll post bios and pictures very soon - keep a lookout for their cute faces!

Phones are up and down!!!

All summer now we've been having problems with our phones, one minute it's working and then oops, it cuts some client's conversation off and then dies. Try to call them again and forget about it, the lines are down for hours on end... Navan is having issues with Bell Canada, we've all made complaints but it seems this is an on-going problem which will take another 2-3 months to rectify. So please, if you are trying to get in touch with us - e-mail is best right now as we are sometimes without a line for a few evenings so we can't return calls promptly as we normally do.

All the new dogs are fitting in nicely, training has strated and they are quite smart and grasping the concept pretty quickly. They are all adorable and we may be having puppies born here at NARC which will be amazing! Keep looking for updates on our beautiful pregnant Shadow - or so she seems pregnant - will have the vet confirm next week!

New doggies have arrived!

Gorgeous Scottish Terrier female, probably pregnant so will be with us for some time to give birth, etc... if she is pregnant - we will have the vet confirm soon! She is adorable and sweet but a bit shy and afraid of sudden movements, we will have plenty of time to work with her although she is already getting better with the over manipulation this weekend, good groom, bath, etc... Large Daschund x, cream colored male, black female Daschund x, male Shih-Tzu, female westie x very sweet but shy with strangers - we will work with her but she is already getting better after only a few days with us! She was really nice with the groomer and let her do everything including nails although I held her for that part being that she had probably never been trimmed prior, her nails were so long it was painful to see! She gave me kisses throughout the whole ordeal and was really sweet about it - she will make someone very happy, we can tell right away she is a doll. 2 beautiful puppies, 3 months old, males, one is a husky x with blue eyes and the other is a Bernese Mountain Dog - just beautiful. A male Golden Retreiver, 11 months old.

All are now in our training program, multi-advantage given, dewormed, etc... Will post bios and pictures soon - keep your eye on our new gorgeous babies soon ready for adoption. Will be vetted, shots, spayed or neutered this week then up for adoption!

New doggies arriving again this weekend!

More and more are in need of our help so we are running to pick up a few new pooches this weekend! They will go in the clinic for 48 hours while we deworm and multi-advantage them so we don't spread any disease to our healthy dogs in the mobile home. Then they will be introduced to different pacts, depending on their size and trained to live together as a family!

If you know of anyone wanting to give up a dog run or dog house, please let them know we are always in need of extra runs/space during summer months so we can save a few more lives or have runs to play ball with our existing pooches - one on one!

A special thank you to all our great volunteers, if it wasn't for them this place wouldn't be running as smoothly and clients would be waiting a long while before having service! Thanks guys, I don't know what I would do without your help - you are AMAZING! Because of you, I take in many more dogs these past few years and due to our team, we are saving more lives...

I know I can't keep all the rescues and boy is it ever tough sometimes... Royalty has gone to his loving home and it really saddens me as I fell for the big guy - even my neighbour came and said - WHAT - you didn't keep him!!! Chika is another that I adore and she is, such as Roy, Bart and Ean such a big suck, now she is leaving us sometime this week - although I am spoiled and get to keep her a few more days. I know, I know they all go to very good homes but it's been a tough month with quite a few dogs that I certainly would have kept for myself!!! Bart is another, I know he won't last long as he's too good to be true... One of my volunteers saw that in him and she requests him when she comes to give him a nice long walk - that from someone who doesn't like walking our big dogs hey Carole!! He snuggles with me in the grass and on the kitchen floor, he was so shy and abused - same as Roy, Ean and Chika.... I guess I'm a sucker for those who need me more and get more attached as they also are the ones that need more of my attention and training!!! Like the song "If I had a Million Dollars" well I wouldn't buy a new fur coat, I would fence this whole 22 acres off and have all the rescues live the life of kings and queens and probably keep them all Ha! Ha! Yeah, I know I'm a bit dog crazy but hey - someone has to be in order to save all these wonderful and beautiful creatures god has handed over as partners and man's best friend right? I may be dog crazy but when I see the volunteers coming on a weekly basis - they are too Hee! Hee! I've created other crazy doggy lovers and we are enjoying every minute of it... It's very addictive and once you start coming here to help - you can't stop - it's a proven fact! Well, good night everyone, it was a wonderful weekend, plenty of people came and went, dogs are pooped and snooring with their bellies full and surely dreaming of one of our volunteers walking them at the farm!

Sale - Husky 4 ltr household cleaner, DOG houses needed

If you want to give us a nice donation, the Husky 4 litre household cleaner is on sale at Canadian Tire for $7.someting insteand of $14.something. I just bought 2 yesterday with the Canadian Tire money that a few of you donated - thank you for that... We use one big container per 2-3 days! Yep, doggies get the household and their crates very dirty!!

We are also looking for dog houses or igloos as we are expanding with 2 new dog runs which we hopefully will be installing this weekend! Need 1-2 dog houses or igloos per run for shade!

We always need small leashes, collars, javex or any cleaning products.

We need Multi-advantage, Revolution or Advantage. We dose all of our dogs each and every month, winter included so they don't spread disease so it is important to be able to keep it up, especially during summer months. We've had a few doggies that came in with fleas - YUK so we had to double dose this month, not only did they get their regular Multi-advantage on the 1st of June but we had to give them revolution on the 12th of June just in case. Although Chaz and Ean who came in full of fleas didn't have contact with the household until they were dozed with Multi-advantage and given Capstar at the vet's after surgery - double dozing to ensure it doesn't spread - we always like to be extra careful as fleas can do a lot of damage on dogs! So, all that being said, we've used up our July dosage in June and could use your help. We need the box that says puppies and dogs up to 4.5kg, the next one is for dogs from 10-25kg and the larger breed one for dogs from 25-45kg. If you can help in this department, please let us know. You can drop off or mail your donations to 4388 Navan Road, Navan, Ontario, K4B 1H9. We are opened Sat & Sun from 1pm to 3:30pm or there is a donation drop off box at the front of the property. Lovely weekend yet sad - few updates!

It's been a busy weekend with clients and volunteers walking dogs, our groomer working to get them all prettied up, volunteers running around bathing, feeding, walking, cleaning and more cleaning Ha! Ha! We educate some of our clients on how to train or teach not only our dogs but their own dogs new tricks; our pooches get more one on one with families visiting, get tons of cuddles and loving so who can complain when they are all exhausted and snoring by 6pm!? I can't - they all seem so happy and content! We've had many appointments booked this weekend to meet with our pooches, some have been adopted, others are awaiting adoption or leaving this week or next weekend once the references are done - quite exciting!

Jaki is our bee buster, few bumble bees have made their way into the house and the moment she sees me come in with my zapping racket - she's there way before me chomping on the bumble bee and killing it instantly. At first, I freaked thinking she was going to get stung but she's an expert and grabs them so quickly that she doesn't get hurt! Quite the character, very quiet for a JRT yet such a sweetie and wants to please by getting mom's bumble bee out of the house - she will be exceptional with a family that gives her a job such as fetching the morning paper or your slippers - she really wants to please!

We've lost Tappie to what we thought was parvo but they tested negative and we aren't sure if her brother Tonka will make it - he is very week and his temperature is really low. Although it's summer, we have to keep him warm with blankets and hot water bottles! Send your prayers so he makes it! This is the part I don't enjoy from NARC, when you spend the whole week recovering a dog and he/she doesn't make it - it's really tough and saddens me that we can't save them all!!!

12 dogs spayed & neutered this week!

It's been quite a busy week, running to the vet's every evening to get 12 of our dogs spayed/neutered, rabies, DHPP, annual vet check, etc... But, this means they are or will available after their recovery! All the dogs are really nice, few are extremely gentle and such friendly pooches - it's hard not to keep a few for ourselves!! We've posted almost all the bios and are working on all the pictures although most are on our website. It is going to be a weird weekend with 12 dogs in crates on short walks but they need to recover properly so the females don't get henias, etc... Chika was such a suck, didn't want to walk to the car so I had to carry her and same when she arrived home, she didn't even want to get out of the car - so funny! They are smart and know their NARC mommy will carry and take care of them no matter what. Had to carry her into the house and settled her in her crate - poor thing - it must really hurt! Bibi was just crying, didn't want to be picked but fell asleep in the car on the way home. She also didn't want to be picked up to put her in her crate - she too was groggy and in pain! Oh well, that is why they are on pain medications for 4 days after surgery, to help them recover well and not feel the pain as much.

It's always nice to get these dogs off death row and bring them home but there are costs associated with taking them in... We need your support, if any of you have a few bucks to spare, run to the dollar store and buy a few items needed for NARC! We need cleaning products, Pine Sol, Javex, comet, etc... Anything to help us keep this house smelling fresh and clean! We also need leashes and collars for the new arrivals - think small most of the time even cat collars for the smaller doggies are needed. We have very nice companies helping with food and treats so are always fine with those needs but certainly could use help for cleaning products and collars or leashes! Your support goes a long way, we had a donation this week from a client out of town and she helped us by taking in more doggies off death row - thanks Lin for you donation - we can now get a doggy spayed with shots from your support! One more life saved thanks to your support!

It's been and remains a busy day! We took in 7 dogs from an SPCA this morning and another 8 dogs taken off death row at a pound. Tomorrow, we are picking up another 6 puppies. So, if you are looking for a companion, if they aren't ready for adoption yet, they will be quite soon! We have a gorgeous male Boxer, a male Beagle, a said to be Min Pin female but really not sure of her mix, a tiny little male Papillon x Pomeranian, a small female Japanese Chin, a male Bishon Frise, a female Corgi x Chihuahua, a long haired male Chihuahua, a female Shih-Tzu, a female Husky, 2 Husky x pups, a mixed large breed, Bishon Frise x, a Jack Russel Terrier and a Poodle x also came in. Yep 16 dogs today and 6 are being picked up tomorrow morning. Most have been introduced to the pacts, all seem to be working out well so far with the ones that have been introduced. The gorgeous Husky female got her crate opened somehow and ended up loose on the property but came to me right away. I introduced her to Hannah and left her in the dog run to play with Hannah but she jumped out of two dog runs to be by my side again. Certainly wants to be with her people and although an escape artist, she sticks around which is an important trait especially for a Husky! The little Shih-Tzu female and Jack Russel terrier got out of the van when our volunteer driver arrived and them too, although shy at first, finally came to me and didn't run off! Great little dogs, really don't understand people out there as these little guys are really sweet. Some are shy so we will work with them and others need house training which will also be taught before they are re-homed. This week will be a busy week for our vet and although we are sure he can't take all of these new dogs this week, be patient - they will be ready in time!

Saturday is going to be a big day

What a rush the last few weeks, getting almost 10-15 dogs in weekly, rushing to the vet's nightly to get them spayed/neutered, shots, etc... NARC is certainly keeping me on my toes, now how can it make me shed a few pounds Ha! Ha! Saturday is a big day, have to visit Rideau River as they want to hold a BBQ for NARC sometime this summer so that's my first stop Saturday morning. Then drive to the SPCA to pick up approx 7-10 dogs at 10am - hopefully to be back at NARC at noon to prepare for clients. Will probably have to return on Sun morning to get the rest - 10 certainly doesn't fit in my small car - a Van or SUV would come in handy on days like these. Then, one of our volunteer drivers is going to the pounds in Montreal to pick up another load of dogs, probably 5-8 coming to NARC - will certainly be a busy busy day! Busy weekend too, I have to train all the new comers not to bark at clients who visit, etc... I hope we have nice weather so I can run them on the property to get their energy level down a notch or two in order to be able to work with them properly - send your good wishes for a sunny weekend!! My daughter is only excited as she gets to pick a few puppies she wants to bring home from the SPCA - funny girl! Oh well, at least I have a little helper weeknights and weekends, following me to the many vet appointments, getting dogs back in the car - she is quite the handy little helper!

Quite the weekend

Yep, still hate the rain - had to javex the floors non-stop due to the muddy paws and couldn't clean the dog runs so they will need major clean-up this week! Can't wait for nice weather and I'm sure the dogs want me to start jogging again instead of short walks in the rain! The 2 new pups are doing well and so is the bishon x and Schnauzer, still haven't named them but it will come in time... We've already introduced the Schnauzer and Bishon x to the pact, they are happily living together with the rest! The matted Bishon got the much deserved groom and bath today, he certainly looks good now for sure!

King is a lot better but still shy with certain men, he recovered nicely form his neuter so is out and about now. Star, Polly and Melandra are still crated as they were getting too excited with the pact and that certainly won't help their recovery!! Star and Polly are NOT liking the idea of of being in crates but it's for their own well being - they drove me crazy whinning all day, wanting to come out to play with the volunteers! Melandra, well she's so quiet in her crate that you can forget that she's actually in there!! Such a sweet little dog but we are still working on the NO JUMPING on people - otherwise she is so well behaved! Well, good night eveyone, till the next blog!!!

From the pound, 1 female Schnauzer, 1 male shi-poo, 2 pups probably border collie? a little female and a little male, brother and sister! Thanks again to our wonderful volunteer driver for picking them up and bringing them to NARC.

We picked up Melandra, Star, Polly and King at the vet's tonight, they got spayed/neutered, their rabies, DHPP and check up. Poor Star had a hernia and a lump on the side which were removed today - three surgeries in one poor little girl!

Sunday we picked up another 2 gorgeous large breeds, one is a male Doberman, just a sweetie but a bit skittish around people - we are working with him and he is getting better already! The other is a nice, really good looking Briard male, cream and white, beautiful - this dog is just gorgeous. He is such a sweetie, training is going very well, he's still sometimes excited when I get home but this is normal. Tonight, I was training with bones, large bones to see if he would drop it and pay some attention to a human or attack - never know with new doggies. Both the Dobbie and Briard passed with HIGH flying colors. Both wanted attention more than their bones so we ended up playing by fetching the bone and giving it to mommy. Great dogs, they will make great pets! We named the Dobbie - KING and our gorgeous Briard is Roy for Royalty!

Our little stray is still at large in the Blackburn Hamlet area - see comments on my last blog with Pepe being our work dog... He is a hard little guy to catch, the whole neighbourhood is trying, we went and tried, the by-law officers went - jeez - we need to get this dog to the rescue immediately before something very bad happens!!! Although, this isn't asking you to run after him as he will bolt and once afraid - this is when accidents happen and they cross the road without paying attention... He will have to gain the trust of one of the people on that street, little by little - he will eventually let himself be caught - we hope!

New dogs were picked-up this morning

Another car full of doggies joined NARC on this beautiful and warm Saturday morning... We have 7 new arrivals, a male bishon frisé, a female Bishon x, a tiny female beagle, a male lhasa apso, a Border Collie x female, a terrier x Shih-Tzu female and a male Lhasa Apso. Look at our website soon for pictures and bios of these beautifull little creatures! Are now in training to live with the pact and also share everything from space to food, toys, attention, water, etc...

Quite a few of our volunteers gave them and the other dogs we've received this week good baths while others groomed them so they are really all looking great! We took some pictures and will share them soon on the website!

Pepe the NARC volunteer and work dog - Blackburn Hamlet LOST DOG REPORT

We were asked tonight by our vet and a few families in the Blackburn Hamlet area to help out in catching a stray dog who is obviously afraid of people and would not come near anyone. Many neighbours and by-Law officers had attempted to catch this stray, yet it always managed to get away.... So, I had Pepe in the car with me and decided he would be our NARC work dog for the evening! Took Pepe out of the car, walking near the other dog but totally ignoring the stray, obviously trying to get it to befriend my new NARC volunteer and eventually me - the big scary human... It worked, the stray came and sniffed Pepe and wanted to play... Pepe did such a good job, was calm throughout the whole exercise even with strangers around him, he was such a good boy. Unfortunately, the moment our little stray saw the other leash I was carrying for it - it bolted. It did manage to eat all the treats I had which was good as we are sure it is quite hungry. This dog has supposedly been out there for 2 days - if you have lost your pet - please claim it NOW at the baseball field in Blackburn Hamlet or it will get hit by a passing vehicle... We stayed on for over an hour, trying to gain it's trust again in hopes that it would come back for Pepe but this stray is really afraid of people so we weren't able to restrain it at all tonight although the families on that street are still trying even at 10:33pm on a Friday night - hats off to them all - God Bless. Hopefully we can all work together to catch this little dog before it gets hit by a car. Although he/she is afraid of people, it wasn't afraid of cars and crossed the streets quite a few times making me hold my breath in, praying while cars were driving past him/her... God, what an evening! All the families that worked with me have my number, if they catch him tonight he will be placed in someone's garage for us to pick up in the morning. Please send your luck our way so this little being makes it and gets to us or the Ottawa Humane Society where it will be in safe hands!!!

New doggies have arrived and update!

Well, it's been a busy week as you probably saw from the updates on the website. From last we told you, we had taken 4 dogs from the pound. The little Westie died of parvo the first few hours we received him which was very sad... The 3 others seem to be doing well so far but were in quaranteen due to this! The Lhasa is at the vet's tonight for his neuter tomorrow with another 3 buddies we've picked up last weekend at an SPCA. All in all, we picked up 8 dogs last weekend to help out an SPCA who is over filled with doggies coming in as strays, etc... Most of the profiles are on our website except for the little Shih-Tzu from the pound late last week who seriously needs to gain tons of weight and also has a skin condition which is being treated with medication. Tonight, we had 4 arrivals from the pound again, this time we've put them in quaranteen right away in order to ensure they don't have Parvo such as the other last week. We've received a Beagle, a Cocker Spaniel, a german x pup whom we have to closely watch as he was vomitting on the way here from the pound and last but not least a maybe Maltese who really needs quite the groom so we can tell what breed it really is! Nope, that's not it as I am returning to the SPCA on Saturday morning to pick up another few doggies in need! Spring is in the air, people are loosing their pets but not going back to claim them or maybe they just don't know what the process is? When adopting a dog, ensure you know the SPCA, Humane Society or Pound near you. Many areas will have an SPCA or Humane Society but towns away from big cities will usually have pounds - call your city to find out where the pound is and keep the contact information close at hand - just in case! It's also always good to have your by-law officer's number at arms lenght as they usually are the ones picking up stray animals so if you call in time - you will find your sweetheart and bring him/her back home safely! Our work here at NARC is to help these dogs in need, your homework is to find those numbers and post them on your fridge - what are you waiting for?

Cages, crates, accessories, dog beds, FOR SALE

We have many small critter or cat cages to sell, we need the funds so are making an all summer garage sale (or until items last!), every weekend from 1pm to 3:30pm. We are opened at that time, pop in to see if we have something you like - great prices to raise funds for NARC. We also have bird cages, critter cages, bunny cages, large and x-large metal dog crates, x-smal to medium cat plastic crates, tons of accessories for all critters and bird cages. Fish tanks and accessories - you name it, we've collected it to raise funds and now need to make room for our new clinic. We also have x-large and large square or round DOG Beds.

We will have the volunteers set it up this weekend in a location that everything will be laid out and easily seen so give us the weekend to set it all up and then you'll be able to pick and choose the item you want or like. Once the set up is ready, we will also take pictures and post them on our website http://www.narc-charity.ca/ under the "for sale" section. There are already pictures of some of the items we have right now available but tons more to show you!

If you do have donations, please bring them on weekends between 1pm and 3:30pm or leave them in our donation drop box at the front of the property at any time. We rely on your donations to raise funds for our beloved pooches! Your scrap is our savior! Without donations, we can't pick up more dogs that are on death row...

New doggies have arrived

Thanks to wonderful volunteer drivers out there, we've managed to rescue another 4 dogs from the pound south of Montreal. A little West Highland x Pincher who is quite sick, has diharea and vomitting but we've put him on medications right away so he should be fine in a few days. He is barely a year old, born in November 2010. A little Lhasa Apso, cute but definitely in need of a good bath - well, they are all in need of some grooming and good bathing! A large Schnauzer, not sure if Giant Breed and if so is certainly a growing puppy, will check his teeth to see approximate age - if he is a mini, he is a bit larger than the others we've had. Another came in but we will have to give him a good groom in order to tell what breed he is!

They are settled in for now, will be introduced to the pact this weekend, neuter/spay next week for those who aren't sick then up for adoption once trained!

We are getting more dogs on Saturday - keep looking to see if your breed comes in over the weekend, we should have pictures and bio's early next week of all or most of our new arrivals!

Good Mother's Day to every mom out there

It's a wonderful, warm and sunny day. We wish all the mom's out there the best on this beautiful day.

Our little Tintin, the daschund with a major black eye is completely healed, now for his neuter and shots, he is such a sweetie but somewhat still shy with sudden movements but we are working with him on that! He will be a changed little man when he leaves us.

Plutot the Bishon is also doing extremely well and is going for his neuter this week also, he is a big baby who loves cuddling with us.

Everyone else is doing fine except Katie is still fighting her lung infection, kennel cough gone bad and this is her 2nd antibiotic so hopefully it works out for her. I hate the fact that I can't do much more for her... it just kills me to see her cough like that all day, must be hard on her! She is such a doll though, never says anything and never complains!

Update at the farm!

Well, we have this tiny little Daschund that we picked up at one of the many pounds, he arrived on Monday with a huge black eye, swollen and huge - same as in the movies when boxers go at it with each other! Poor boy, what the hell happened to him! He is much better, the swelling has gone down with compresses and medicated eye drops. It almost looks semi-normal now after only a few short days with us! We have a before picture - wait till you see this!

Our little Bishon is doing so much better, we had picked him up at an SPCA, he was very sick with diharea and quite frail and skinny. He is doing well, eating and drinking plenty and is quite active now that he has strength. He is such a sweet thing although he was not too happy at the SPCA and agressive with the staff so we are keeping an eye on his behavior.

We always need help, strong arms for renovations and strong minds for training and working with our dogs. Things needed, update at the farm!

We are in need of more Javex, Pine Sol, mops and more mops - yep, we use and abuse our mops that's for sure. We could also use Glade plug-ins re-fills so that the doggy home smells fresh for visitors! A few new brooms, vim, comet, cleaning products of any kind and yes more Javex!

The pooches that remain are doing extremely well, we've found homes for quite a few of our dogs recently and are proud of having found nice loving homes. They've all been spoiled over the easter weekend with treats and tons of attention. We've cleaned up the property outside so there is now parking space and it really looks good - although there is still much more to do!!

We should be getting new dogs sometime this week or weekend, keep checking our blog to find out who joins us soon!

Busy Busy

2 new puppies have joined us, they are just too adorable... We named the girls Janelle and Canelle, they are not siblings but almost the same age so having fun together at the farm. 1 matted Lowchen we named Quasi, he did get the much deserved groom so we will take pictures of him and show you quite a difference from what we posted. I did post him in his uglyness as I wanted all of you to see how they come to us. They are not all the cute faces you see when you visit our website or even come see us at the farm. When you visit, they are ready for adoption, healthy and cute - certainly not the way they arrive!!! A tiny little Maltese x Yorkie we named Tweety, such a sweet little thing, probably 4 pounds and certainly a purse or lap girl. Another beautiful black and white Shih-Tzu we named Coco, very very sweet but an escape artist always finding his way to our bedrooms Ha! Ha! Obviously belonged to someone and wants to be with people more than with the doggies although he certainly loves playing with all of the others!

Robert - I know where Freddy is!!

God I hope you check our blog once in a while. We know you've lost your pooch Freddy, he is safe and sound although we don't have your new number so please call us so we can give you the information of the people who have Freddy right now. If anyone knows Robert Calter, his new e-mail or phone number, please give us a call - we need to get him back with his lost pal Freddy! Luckily, Freddy was wearing his rabies tag so the nice people called our vet who then informed us that our client's pooch was found and is safe. You should get your pet microchipped!! Or at least keep your NARC file up-dated with current information. Certainly keeping their rabies tags on, if he/she is a NARC's dog, the vet's will contact us and we can easily find out whom the tag belongs to and let you know your dog is safe and it's location. It's not the first dog we re-connect with their adoptive families and we are sure he won't be the last - these things sometimes happen. Let's get Freddy home with Robert safely and soon!

We need help and items...

We are very low on Javex, Comet, PineSol, rubber gloves, paper towel, Tea Tree Oil and could use your help! Any cleaning products needed to keep NARC dust and smell free. We are also looking for more ceramic tiles, spring is here so we will be gutting the house and installing ceramic tiles hopefully everywhere if we can accumulate enough tiles. We could also use plywood, wood screws and handy men to help out! Many things to do, we have the material for the deck but need labors or volunteers to help build it - if you or your family want to pitch in, let us know! We also need a roof for the mobile home, it's raining now and leaking which is NOT GOOD! If you know of anyone or any contractor willing to donate a roof (trusses) or shingles - we can help them by give them a receipt for gift in kind to help with their taxes at the end of the year!! I'll explain when they contact us!

All the new doggies are doing extremely well, can't believe how nice they are and don't get why they ended up on the streets or at pounds... It's funny to see them all pile up on doggy beds together, some on top of the other - all dogs that didn't know each other are now all best buds. NEW Microchipping your NARC Pet: We have received our microchips so if anyone wants to microchip their NARC Pet it is now doable and comes with 6 weeks gift of pet insurance. 4 new doggies have arrived!

Our wonderful volunteer picked up another 4 dogs at the pounds yesterday and brought them home to NARC. We have a very quiet male Schnauzer, very small and quite the looker... he certainly belonged to someone as he is freshly shaved with the Schnauzer cut, why did they give him up or did they just loose him and didn't come to reclaim him? God knows! A male Daschund who seems very sweet, probably very young as he was very excited to get to us. A male Jack Russel Terrier, very friendly and definitely excited to arrive after certainly a very long time in crates in a car. And last but not least - a "mouton /sheep" - yep, looks like a sheep but surely there will be a dog under all that matted hair. Bishon frisé or poodle mixed Maltese? We will be able to tell you once it's matted hair is removed which breed! It is very hard to tell when we see that big fat chunck of hair walking around... We will make it shed over 4-5 pounds of hair tonight! Obviously this dog was not in a regular household, was afraid of walking on the leash and although afraid of us, still let us pat and pick him up which is a good sign. Probably coming from a puppy mill or horder!

Update at the farm

The doggies are doing well, those that needed immediate medical attention were seen and are now being taken care of. Few had imbedded collars or large gashes on their bodies, they will be here a while while they heal before being able to get spayed or neutered. We're certainly keeping our vet's busy and myself, running around to vet appointments daily! We've been running out of water on and off for over a month now, lines are freezing and driving us crazy but next week will be warmer so we're not going to have that problem any longer - I hope!!! Yesterday, after adding a new heat trace on the line, we had water for a few hours BUT it still managed to freeze on us last night, with the heat trace on and during a load of laundry - imagine that...plumbers say if the water is always flowing it won't freeze - news flash - NOT TRUE! Today, too cold for water so we've been borrowing from neighbors again! New doggies are here!

7 new arrivals, all very sweet and well mannered... 2 Beagles, one female and one male, extremely friendly and the boy is very quiet. A Pikengese who has a problem with his right eye, not enough to take it out but we don't think he will be capable of using it much. Needs drops a few times daily and hopefully it will help! 1 female Bishon Frise, very sweet and friendly who wants to be with us all the time. A grey/silver Miniature Pincher, he's quite the character and just loves to play with the other dogs, he was said to be very shy with people at the SPCA but so far he's really enjoying my company and wants to be my lap dog while I'm trying to type here Ha! Ha! We will see how he reacts to all our volunteers! A very sweet pomeranian x, she is just too adorable and will make someone very happy - she is so cute too - wait till you see her little face! A male Spitz, very sweet and friendly, loves to play and getting along well with all the other dogs, I'm sure they will all be exhausted after running in and out playing all evening!

Well, we'll keep you posted, I've added a bit of information on our website and pictures will come shortly of these amazing little dogs we've taken in recently! Just too adorable, all of them! We are sure they will find homes the moment they are ready, too nice to pass up and way too friendly to be at rescue!

More babies arriving tomorrow!

We are picking up another group of dogs in need of homes tomorrow, keep your eyes on our website for updates, pitures and bios. From what I hear, there will be a few beagles, a poodle, miniature pincher, chihuahua and husky puppy - all very cute from the pictures I've seen!

Few are older dogs in need of their last forever home... No matter, they will all be spoiled rotten until they find their forever homes... Loved and kissed by our many volunteers and they'll have many play buddies with all the other doggies we have waiting to accept them into our loving rescue!

If you are interested in any of the new dogs that have come in or are coming in, e-mail us as we've already tentatively placed a few that aren't up for adoption yet but will be leaving us the moment they are!!!

We are now temporarily opened Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 3:30pm, you may drop in and see all of our babies! Although, we do have booked appointments so if we have a set appointment for the dog you are looking at, we won't be able to release it until the family booked in meets with them!

P.S. Bring your rubber boots, the property is a muddy mess Ha! Ha! Until we are sure there will be no more snow and whatever is left dissapears, we can't have loads of rocks dropped off - it will be quite muddy for the next month or so... spring is here!

11 new doggies have arrived

We've taken all the small dogs out of 2 pounds today and have 11 new arrivals that will be ready once vetted, dewormed, spayed or neutered, trained, etc... A 2 year old Yorkie female, a Sharpei puppy, a black lab female puppy born December 26th, a 6 year old female pomeranian, a 3 year old Bishon Frise named Smartie, an appricot female poodle, a female small Shih-Tzu who is named La Poune and approx 6 years old, a black pomeranian, a female Chihuahua x Pug and 2 male Shih-Tzu's.

Most have already settled in and are getting along well with the other dogs and a few are just snuggle bugs and certainly want all the attention they are getting! The little white Bishon, the little Yorkie are still shy but they will come around in a few days.

Volunteers: quite the weekend ahead of us, bathing, grooming, deworming, administering multi-advantage for all the new comers and updating the in-house system on top of taking pictures for our website... Should be lots of fun especially since we are getting another load of doggies probably this weekend!!!

We also have a stray Cocker Spaniel that arrived, if no one claims her by Sunday, she will become a NARC pet and will be vetted and then looking for her forever home. If you have lost your Cocker Spaniel, call or e-mail us with details as we may have her with us right now! Proof of ownership will be required with pictures in order for us to release her to her family - if any!

Few new dogs arriving or already here!

I know it's been a while since I've blogged and kept you guys in touch with what is going on here at NARC. We've had a few accidents which de-motivated me a bit but things are slowly looking up. We've had to rip the main entrance floor due to water damage, with the snow melting and rain we've had a few leaks in the roof and shortly thereafter we had NO running water for a whole week. Finally, after a full day in the rain with the electrician and 4 days with the plumbers working at it, they've finally got us hooked up yesterday so we were able to clean up and are back in business for this weekend. What is up with all this bad luck!? We'll have to change that to good luck very very soon! Any roofers out there who can lend a hand? A temporary fix until we get money or a new roof donated!!

We have a new arrival and a few others arriving this weekend, we will be posting bios and pictures on our website shortly!

Sorry to all the volunteers for sending you all back home last weekend but there wasn't much to do without running water - we'll have plenty to do this weekend that's for sure! After this ordeal and rain this week, all the doggies need a good bath so we certainly will have our hands full!

Ceramic Tiles - URGENTLY needed

It's now become a bit more urgent and we need many ceramic tiles to re-do our main entrance floor. We've had a minor set back and due to water damage, we had to rip off the flooring and would need to get it fixed as soon as possible so we don't damage the aspenite. It doesn't matter if they are not all the same color, texture, size - we will work them all together and create something nice or funny for our new floor! We just need ceramic tiles so if you know anyone who is keeping extras in their basement or garage, tell them to send them to NARC for our re-build.

Puppies are still looking for homes!

We still have 3 cute little puppies, border collie mixed collie looking for forever homes. 1 Black female, 1 Golden female and 1 Black male. All adorable, DHPP, annual vet check, healthy and growing daily.

We'll try hard this weekend to post new pictures of our pooches as some have gained weight, look better and changed in color since we've had them. Good nutrition, supplements, a clean environment and water daily certainly makes them look great!

We are still looking for tiles to replace the main entrance floor and hopefully be able to finish the grooming area. If anyone has extra ceramic tiles or cushion floor please drop them off in our "Donations Drop Off Bin" at the front of the property or on weekends between 1-3pm when we are there, feel free to drive them up to the shelter!

We are also hoping to finish the renovations to the mobile home and trailer this year so that we have more space and our own in-house clinic!

Few notes

First off, I'd like to thank some of our precious (little) clients for their GREAT donations lately, we've had many Oil of Oregano bottles donated and that is amazing, not counting everything else they brought... Have to say, these came from two young little ladies who asked for their x-mas gifts as donations for NARC... Now that is something! Girls, you made a big difference and it's people like you who make us stronger and helps us to keep NARC alive. Another little girl decided to give up some of her toys for our doggies too. Thank you!

I have to say, I am always amazed at our young generation out there and it's people like them that will hopefully run NARC one day and keep it going! In hopes, for a better future for everyone...

Rousse the Cocker Spaniel is still with us, she is just the sweetest thing here and even though she gets excited around cats, we are sure someone will fall in love with her as her personality is just perfect. She loves cuddles and of course wants to be a lap dog Ha! Ha!

Same with Harley, although he is a big boy, he is really the smartest dog here! He is great with everyone including kids and other dogs and even perfect with our cat... He listens very well and although he is a big lug and loves to play, he will make someone very happy!

Our new Shih-Tzu, which we've just named Benjamin came in with a matted chin and belly and long hair, we gave him the much deserved trim and he is so cute! He will be neutered and checked next week by one of our vet's then up for adoption. He's already been dewormed and had his multi-advantage and is now living happily with his play mates. I will take time to post pictures very soon on our website. He is still a bit shy with strangers but certainly coming around quickly, he does this funny little spin dance when I pull out the leash or even go near the door, he certainly loves his walks!

Overall, the household is keeping us busy and active, it's always great to have all this life and joy around! We've placed a few in foster homes and hopefully a few more will either find permanent homes or foster homes before I head out for a week's holiday - sunny beach here I come!!!

We will need a few foster homes for that week while I am on holidays, our volunteers will be coming daily to play and feed the dogs but I always prefer for them to live with someone as they are accustomed to now. So, if you want to foster for us for that week (or longer), either e-mail information@narc-charity.ca or call us at 613-834-7005. We will provide you with everything you need in order to properly care for our pooch such as food, bowls, bed, crate if wanted, etc... And if all goes well and you want to foster again, we probably will need foster homes again in April for 1-2 weeks.

Update from the farm!

Well, we took a nice holiday between x-mas and new years, the doggies were spoiled with treats, x-mas cookies and chicken chew sticks every single day and had tons of loving... I am sure they are sad we are all back to our regular work schedules!

The new puppies that arrived during the holidays are doing well, they are still a bit skinny but are gaining daily now that they have been dewormed - wow that was gross! I went to the vet's this week with them for their check-up and DHPP and we will give them the much needed bath this weekend so they are all clean and fresh for their new homes.

We are re-opening this weekend and have many families coming to meet with our pooches and volunteers coming back to their regular schedule so it will be a busy weekend for sure. There are a few projects still on the go and a few new projects starting this weekend which will certainly benefit NARC and give us more space!

All in all, it is so far a start of a good new year, let's hope that NARC survives yet another year!

Closing for the holidays!

As every year, NARC closes for x-mas and we are now officially closed for the holidays. You can certainly contact us to visit pets next week but unfortunately this week we aren't taking visits and aren't doing placements this early before x-mas. Have a merry christmas everyone, thank you to all the volunteers that have helped throughout the year and those coming during the x-mas holidays to lend a hand! It has been a very busy year and we are looking forward to a busier 2011.

36 dogs looking for homes...

And more needing to come in - yep that's right - more doggies are on death row and need a place to call home until they find their permanent home! We're waiting to see how many dogs we will be receiving probably tomorrow or this weekend, unless other rescues have come forward for them - there are quite a few at the pound needing to be pulled out. It has been quite a busy week, was at the vet's every evening from Sunday night till tomorrow - quite the running around for spays/neuters, dental cleaning, shots, etc... Same for next week, booked solid at the vet's to spay/neuter the new arrivals so they can be ready for adoption.

We'll have to work hard to finish the other trailer (our new quaranteen & clinic) this weekend so that it is up and running hopefully by Monday to quaranteen the new arrivals from the pound. A lot of work ahead for our volunteers! New dogs need bathing, Trina needs a medicated bath for possibly scabies - tests are to be done on Monday so we can know if it's just allergies or something worst! But, we've already taken our precautions and gave her a few medicated baths just in case it is scabies or ringworm and of course she is separate from the others.

The new Cockers, Cocka-Poo and Schnauzers are settling nicely, the Cockers won't need us for much longer as they are very sweet and have already been house trained - quite smart little girls. One of the Shnauzers will also be available soon but the other is still shy so we may keep her a while longer unless someone wants to work with her! Rose and Bronco are ready for loving homes - pictures of them all will be posted this weekend.

6 doggies have joined NARC again!

Quite the busy year and it just seems to get busier! That pound certainly gets many dogs weekly that need all of us rescues out there saving their lives! 3 beautiful female Cocker Spaniels, one tan & white the other two are black and white. One little black cocka-poo, very sweet, small and cute! Two beautiful Schnauzers, one is quite timid but she will come around with our loving!

They have arrived earlier this time, 7pm last night which gave me time to play with them and assess their behavior which is great. The Cockers and Cocka-Poo just want to please and seem to be craving attention, tails wagging and so happy to have the attention. The Schnauzers are a bit timid but will come around by the end of the week.

We're already bringing the Cocka-Poo to the vet's tonight for his neuter, he is young and adorable so can go to his new home soon! We have posted them on the website except we don't have pictures yet but will try to get that done this weekend.

What a weekend! Did you know about Kennel Cough?

Another successful weekend at the farm, our other trailer is soon becoming our NARC clinic and quaranteen which is a must for new arrivals. We've taken 7 dogs from the SPCA a few weeks ago that came in with Kennel Cough so having a quaranteen building outside of our NARC regular living quarters will ensure our health dogs don't catch diseases. Of course, being that we're still in renovations and had to bring the 7 new doggies into the NARC home, some of our regular pooches have caught the cough but are healthy enough that it won't become infectious.

Kennel Cough, a simple common cold, nothing works to cure Kennel Cough and it will go away on it's own, last up to 10 days. If the cough persists or your dog has green nazal discharge then that means it is Kennel Cough gone wrong (infectious) go to the vet and get an antibiotic to help cure the infection. We give our dogs Oil of Oregano in their water every 2nd day as a regular routine so most of our regulars won't even catch it but for the newly arrivals that don't have the Oil in their system for a month or so - they will certainly end up with a very mild Kennel Cough.

NARC very rarely has Kennel Cough in the house but it is airborne so once it comes in from another shelter, it can infect our other dogs. Just wanted to inform you in case you are visiting us or adopting one of our pooches that they may come with the cough for another week's time!

Things still needed and update

We'd like to thank those of you who have brought us tiles to soon tile the mobile home living room but we would need quite a few more... If you have old tiles sitting in your garage or shed, please think of us and drop them off at any time, we have our donation drop off box right besides the gate for such items. Doesn't matter size or colour - doggies sure won't mind but we sure will as it will be easier to clean lol. This place is starting to look amazing, I'll have to take pictures soon to show you the changes. Outside log wood siding is almost done and it looks adorable, inside fencing is finished and just great! Makes it bigger for the doggies and they seem happier now that they can see everyone coming and going. We have the other part of the living room opened for business, although the trap door is not done yet so that the pooches can go in and out as they please, it's great to have all of our t-cup or very small doggies separated from the others. They are also all paper/pad trained which makes it way easier to clean!

Our poor driver must be exhausted after picking up the rescues south of Montreal, driving to another rescue to drop a dog off then to Navan to drop off our rescues and that's not it, he also has to drive back home to Montreal... He arrived here at 11pm after being in the car since 5pm, left NARC at midnight to then have his few hours drive back home. We can't thank you enough Stephane for doing this - you are the best!

New arrivals: 2 tiny little pomeranians, very sweet but need some grooming and a good bath. One little Chihuahua who is really shy and afraid right now but we're sure he'll come around soon. And last but not least a black poodle, very sweet although a bit shy right now which is to be expected after a few hours in a car then a new home here at NARC. They will all get a good bath and groom this weekend then we'll post pictures for you to see these beautiful little guys!

34 dogs at NARC looking for homes and another 4-7 arriving tomorrow depending on who needs us at the pound when we get there! So far we know there are 2 pomeranians, 1 chihuahua and possibly another 3-4 small doggies desperately in need of saving or it's euthanization for them!

If you are looking for a pet, now is the time to call us and book yourselves in for an appointment as we do close for the christmas holidays. Well, we are opened for visits and donations but none of our dogs leave NARC during x-mas - it's been our rule since we've opened over 3 years ago. It is very stressful for dogs to adapt to their new homes, let alone in a new home with 20 guests for diner on x-mas day!!! And we don't believe in placing x-mas present puppies or dogs as most end up returned to shelters or found on the streets! Please consider this before attempting to buy a dog for your loved ones and wait until the holidays are over or a few weeks prior so they adjust. This IS the time of year that dogs may get scared and snap at someone for being cornered or something - not their fault at all as they weren't ready for all the comotion! Please think twice before getting a x-mas pet! Don't get me wrong, for me it would be the perfect x-mas gift but... I would ensure that there are no x-mas parties not to dramatize my new doggy!

Have a look at our website this weekend, we have 5 gorgeous Collie x puppies ready for adoption, we will take pictures this weekend and post them. Also new, 2 miniature Pinchers, 2 pugs, 1 puggle and 3 Shih-Tzu's - all soon ready for adoption. They need to get spayed/neutered, shots, etc... before we can find them loving homes but we will get that done next week so they can be placed quickly. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we have finished the inside fence, cleaned all the dog runs before winter, filled all the wholes the doggies had made this summer - digging seems like a lot of fun! It took quite a lot of sand to fill all of those wholes... Always wondered where it all goes, probably on the dogs themselves which is why we always have to bathe them almost every week... The 2 new matted Shih-Tzu's had their much needed grooms and tons of Tender, Loving, Care from our volunteers. They were spoiled with treats and a volunteer even bought them their first shirt - they are very cute now and drastically shrunk in size! We also started on the outside siding, took off part of the plastic siding on the mobile home and are starting to install the logs so it looks exactly like my log home, it will be really wonderful and already looks quite amazing - this should be done hopefully by the end of the week! Of course, the compressor decided to stop working so I guess I have to get out there tomorrow and buy another one so we can finish the log siding and of course I still need it to finish the inside of my house! If this weather could persist, we would be able to finish the log siding on this house and the food trailer and maybe even build our new deck with a railing for the mobile home!! Wouln't that be great!

I am sure all the volunteers are as exhausted as I am, we will all sleep like babies from working outside in this cold weather! The doggies are surely quiet after a day of running, barking at the volunteers, walks on the property and just being their wonderful silly selves!

New doggies have arrived

Two really nice and friendly black labrador puppies, approx 4 months old and 2 said to be Shih-Tzu's but will be able to tell more once they are properly groomed, look like Maltese to me... They are very matted and not very good looking yet... nothing that a good groom and bath won't solve for them this weekend and show off that cute little doggy under all of that matted hair.

Our volunteers will have their hands full with grooming and bathing this weekend with more doggies arriving on Saturday - keep looking at our blog or facebook for updates, pictures and information. Talk to you soon!

That puppies are like infants and you can't just give them different treats as you can make your puppy very ill or kill them? As infants, they need to be introduced to their foods slowly. We introduce something new to our infants every month or week to see if they have any allergic reactions, why aren't we doing this with our puppy? Feeding different types of treats or house food to your puppy will give him diharea and if it persists, he will dehydrate and can die or end up costing you over a thousand dollars in vet care, IV fluids, etc... Puppies dehydrate quickly so it's important to keep them on the food they have started to eat and introduce slowly the new food you want them to have. Mix 3/4's of their old food with 1/4 of the new food and reduce the old food daily and gradually until you are only feeding them the new food of choice. Then, keep the old food as treats, his system is already used to this food so use it for training. Once your puppy is 4-6 months old, his stomach will be stronger and you can start him on certain treats, again by introduction, a bit at a time so he gets adapted to the new treats/food.

We've placed many puppies this summer and have educated many of our clients on this, it is important for the health of your pup so please keep in mind that they are babies and treat them as such. Enjoy your new pet, spoil them rotten with love!

Love the new indoor fence!

Yep, the temporary fix is now fully done, we have a fence in the house separating the living room in two... Perfect and now everyone can see all the dogs when they come in which is really great for them and for all of us here. Still not fully done the renovations but can't wait till next weekend when we all get together again and finish it all off. Thanks to all the volunteers for a hard working weekend here at NARC, some had to wash the newly arrived stinky puppies, others finish the inside fence, clean crates, wash floors, bathe our regular dogs, filling, etc... All in all, another very productive week. Next Saturday, hoping it is still nice outside, we are planning on siding the mobile home with the logs that match my new soon to be home so this place will look amazing! Bit by bit, we're going to get there! If there are any handy men out there wanting to volunteer, we have a deck to build connecting both the mobile home and the food trailer - would be nice if we could also get that done before winter hits! Have the wood and all that is needed except for the hands as all of our current volunteers are so very busy! Thanks to my wonderful father for all the equipment needed in order to be able to finish our indoor and outdoor fencing needs - Navan Fence you are the best!

New puppies have arrived!

We picked up 3 puppies last night at the pound, were they ever stinky but one of our volunteers gave them a double shampoo bath today so they are all clean and smelling fresh. Now for their quaranteen to see if there is any Parvo, if not, they will be ready for adoption very shortly! Not sure of their mix, maybe Collie x ?? Will post pictures once they have had their DHPP.

Renovations in the mobile home are coming along, hopefully we will be able to finish the living room tomorrow then when I move out we'll be attacking the back rooms and grooming area! Lots to do, not enough hours in a day to get them all done quickly but as they say - Rome wasn't built in a day...

Anyone wanting to volunteer some time in installing siding on this mobile home of ours? I have the log siding and air gun, just don't have the time! Also, if there is a roofer out there willing to donate time and equipment to fix the roof - that would be amazing! Otherwise, we will tarp it again for this winter in hopes to have money next year to buy shingles so we can get that roof done once and for all. For companies out there willing to do this as a donation, we can write you a charitable receipt for income tax purposes for any work done for NARC!

Productive Weekend - Things needed to continue

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we were able to start renovating the mobile home and it already looks bigger and better! The doggies have more room, you can now see them all when you come in and of course they can see everyone visiting!! Still a work in progress but it's getting there slowly but surely.

We need tiles, ceramic tiles of any colour - if you have a few spares from your kitchen or bathroom renovations - I'm sure the dogs won't mind if they have to walk on 10 different colored tiles but it surely will make it easier to clean when it rains, etc... Drop them off in our Donation Drop Off box, 4388 Navan Road between 10th Line and Trim Road. Doesn't matter which size, small to large as we will cut them to fit if needed.

And we are still in need of a toner for our photocopier (Minolta MT Toner 501A). Thank you in advance for your help and donations, we couldn't do all of this without you! NARC is always looking into making it a better living for our pooches, your help is greatly appreciated and helps us achieve our goals.

Few things we need to be fully operational

Yes, I know it's been a while and yes we are kind of fully operational after the fire but... still a few items missing to be 100% up to speed. We desperately need a fax machine or Winfax to install on NARC's computer so we can get faxes sent/received on-line. Winfax would certainly be best but we will certainly accept your older fax machine.

Someone donated this beautiful expensive photocopier shortly after the fire, GREAT stuff and we just love it but are now soon lacking ink so cartridges (Minolta MT Toner 501A) now needed and of course paper so we can make copies of our veterinary records for our adoptive families.

Anyone have an old cordless phone lying around? Certainly something we should have to be able to answer calls when we are outside or in another area of the house as I keep almost killing myself trying to run for the phone nightly!

Good printer needed, we have one but it SUCKS, it keeps jamming even if I bought it new - maybe an older model would be better. Color would be also great for our client letters but right now a working printer - any printer is certainly appreciated.

NARC uses all of their funds on the dogs so we don't want to start purchasing equipment when the money is needed on operations - please help us with these items which any business needs to run successfully! Thank you in advance for all of you out there sending nice e-mails, good wishes and donations, without YOU we wouldn't be where we are right now!

Puppies are leaving us!

5 puppies from the Collie x Border Collie litter have found homes last weekend... Although their families had to wait a week before picking them up as they weren't ready yet. They are now, shots have been done, annual vet check, dewormed twice, eating and drinking well, have gained some weight and will certainly gain more as growing babies do! 1 client came to pick up their baby tonight, 2 others are leaving for their homes tomorrow and the other 3 families are coming on Saturday.

8 pups are now left for adoption although a few families are visiting them this weekend! Book your time to see them before it's too late!

We also have the Husky x puppy still looking for his home and a new Cocka-Lab - unsure of mix but he is very cute, curly hair on his ears, sits when asked and approx 4-5 months old. We will post pictures of him soon.

Volunteer driver from Ottawa to Toronto

Pick up will be at the Ottawa Humane Society on Charlemagne Drive in Ottawa and not sure of drop off location but they will certainly fill you in once you are ready to go. Update at the farm!

Yep, I am the only one in the world who gets all this loving every day - it's like being a millionnaire!!!! I get to play with puppies, run, sing and act like a child while playing tug of war till I am so hot I need a shower! The best exercise in the world if you ask me! Have the puppies say "wha wha" when I play with them, get my arm chewed off inside with over 30 doggies trying to eat me up nicely - this is certainly the best! It's 8pm, I've exhausted all of them by being silly - of course I am always silly - you should all know that by now Hee! Hee!

We chatted with our new puppies adoptive families today, it was pretty great... We have 5 families interested in our pooches so if all the references go well on Monday! 5 of our Collie x Border Collie pups will have found homes - that's pretty amazing!

Everyone here is doing great although they are all pooped out from my going crazy again and making them all bark, play, growl and HAVE FUN! My nightly chore - god this job is SOOOOO hard lol.

Groomy got the much deserved shave down, poor baby although she really looks amazing - thanks Yasmin for bringing her to your groomer - she looks great!

OK, well, I should wind down and relax for a change, still have some doggy laundry to do and cleaning for tomorrow's client visits - talk to you all soon!

Puppy viewing Saturday at 1:30pm

Being that we are already fully booked this weekend, we are inviting clients to come see the Collie x Border Collie puppies this Saturday, October 16th at 1:30pm to 2:30pm. We have had many e-mails and calls for our Collie x Border Collie babes that will soon be ready for adoption. They will be available next week, they are dewormed already but are only getting their annual vet check and 1st set of shots (DHPP) on Monday, October 18th. This is set up as a group visit so that we can answer all of your questions at the same time. We will see you Saturday at 1:30pm otherwise e-mail us and we will book you for next weekend when they are ready for adoption.

I think some people don't know what CHARITY means, well here goes, it means we spend money on dogs and don't get the full amount back, we do this because we want to save lives and of course we love doing this. Why are you asking us to give our dog for free or reduce our rates? Obviously you haven't seen our vet bills to spay or neuter a dog and clean teeth or have some pulled out because they are rotten or even then - pay for shots, rabies, DHPP, dewormers, multi-advantage, hernia or cyst removals, etc... Oh, and don't forget the $50 walk-in fee to have a dog checked to see if he/she is healthy. Add this all up and we pay more than $675 for each adult dog that comes through our door, that is without teeth extractions or cleaning - just for regular visis, spay/neuter, dewormers, multi-advantage, rabies, DHPP and check ups. Yet we only charge $400 for our rescues and still have a few people daily wanting them for free! If that is the case, why come to a charity in the first place? Why not find your own free dog with issues or worms or fleas, not spayed with a hernia and very bad breath/teeth? Certainly because you don't want the extensive vet bill. If you have problems paying for our fee when our dog is completely vetted, what about food? What if something goes wrong, who will pay the future vet bills? You may want to wait until you are financially secure before getting a pet!!

Anyways, I'm venting but am tired of e-mails asking for free dogs or discounted rates, we spend a lot of money on our rescues. This not including food, treats, training, etc... Don't even get me started on administrative fees such as hydro, phone bill which by the way does NOT come out of NARC account but actually my personal account to help NARC stay in business... Our dogs are special because they have survived and have found their way into our home/rescue. Even when NARC has no funds, our volunteers will donate to help cover the veterinary cost for these lovely beings. Quite amazing to have people pay for dogs that don't belong to them and not ask anything in return!

Puppy update

Well, it's nice to have these 13 puppies, they are certainly the centre of attraction and the neighbourhood kids are enjoying them fully - playing dress up and cradling them. They certainly are getting tons of attention from volunteers, friends and family!

Elvis our new black Cocker Spaniel who is only 7 months old and Sunshine our gorgeous Maltese 1.5 year old girl are at the vet's tonight. They will be spayed/neutered and getting their shots tomorrow morning. We'll be picking them up after work and settling them in a crate for a few days of recovery.

The 13 Collie x's and the new cocka-lab pup will all be going to the vet's on Monday for their first shots, the Collies will then be almost 8 weeks and ready for their loving homes afterwards. The lab x is approx 3-4 months, very cute and yes we need to post pictures of him for you to see.

Everyone else is doing great, a few took their spays tough last week but are doing better this week!

I can't thank our volunteers enough, they come every weekend and pound away bathing dogs getting them ready for their spay/neuter, cleaning dog runs, crates, grooming, cleaning outside and of course chatting up our clients. We have so many visitors that I sometimes loose track but do know that without them helping, I'd be up till midnight cleaning up, grooming, etc... Thank you gals & guy lol, new guy in town helping out which is great! I love you all and am always looking forward to seeing you each and every week! Hope I had more time to sit and chat when you are here! I miss you, it's like I didn't get a chance to say HELLO this past weekend!

Cute little Shih-Tzu, older gal that will be looking for her home soon. She is very sweet, loves attention and certainly wants to be in our arms to cuddle.

Westie x female and male Terrier have been picked up by our volunteer and are with her tonight due to arrive here at NARC tomorrow for their vetting and training.

6 dogs were spayed/neutered early this week, are in recovery till Saturday but then ready for their loving homes. Billy the T-Cup Chihuahua, Kermit the pom, Jade the Min Pin, Junebug the JRT, Punky the Daschund and Tamarra the Shih-Tzu. All are very adorable, did great at the vet's and so far are doing well with their recovery. Some of their pictures are posted and others coming soon for you to see.

If you are looking, you better call to meet whomever you think is a fit soon as we already have people coming to see Jasper, Jade, Punky, Shamrock, Maybell, Snoopy, Camelia and Lutin this weekend. We are pretty sure they will find homes very quickly! We are booking fast and only have a few openings left!

9 new arrivals this week

Yep, I must be insane, not only am I mopping every 5 minutes with this rain and dirty paws making paw prints on the floors but I also took in another 9 doggies from the gaz chamber. Well, couldn't leave them there to die could I?? Now we really need funds to help these guys get spayed/neutered, shots, etc... Thanks to our wonderful Coralie for driving to Montreal and back with these wonderful dogs every week!

Another Tiny Pomeranian male, looks identical to Lutin which is quite funny! A small Cocker Spaniel female, a male Shih-Tzu, a female Miniature Pincher who is quite scared but she will come around in time. A puppy that looks like a cocker x lab?? A tiny little wire haired Daschund, a very small female Jack Russel Terrier. A white miniature poodle although she is really matted so will need a good groom - another long job this weekend! And a Lhasa Apso male although may be Shih-Tzu but does seem to have the Lhasa hair!

We'll have them checked by our vet, spayed or neutered, given shots and trained before they are ready for adoption. Pictures to be posted soon, hopefully this weekend!

Oh God, More Rain!!!

Oh boy, does this house get messy when it rains! Paw prints or shall I say water prints everywhere, mopping 20 times during evenings and wet doggies splashing everything in sight! Those are the days I'd like to have a locking door on that "trap" door of ours so I can lock the doggies inside for a few hours at a time! In and out priviledge is very nice for them but not so nice for the floors or my mopping skills lol. Oh well, they seem to be enjoying being wet and still run in and out - you'd think they would stay inside when it rains - no?

The new doggies were named, pictures posted on the website and are going to the vet's tomorrow and Wednesday, they are so adorable. Really good dogs, well behaved, no barking, docile, good with other dogs... I can't believe they would have been put down! Even the Basset is a quiet guy, considering the breed - we lucked out with him indeed! And Hulio, well, he is just the sweetest big guy ever, he's living with all the small pooches, so docile that we plucked him in with the pact and he just fit right in and is a fluffy pillow for the small ones who like to curl up on him or right by his side - such a sweet and quiet boy! He will certainly melt a few hearts, oh sorry that's already started with the volunteers hearts and mine of course! Just adorable, all of them different yet so special as they survived!

Don't forget it's United Way time again this year, find it in your hearts to help NARC take more doggies out of the gaz chamber or off death row at pounds! Help us help them get here, get vetted and then re-homed - it's such a joy to do this - you can't even comprehend!

New doggies have arrived

We've taken another 6 doggies off death row at a pound in Montreal tonight, here are some of the details to start with and pictures will follow shortly.

One tiny little Pomeranian male, very cute who was abandonned in his home with his playmate, a very matted Maltese male who needs a groom big time - he is as matted as Snoopy was when he arrived!!! The pom is right by my side licking my arm as I am typing away!

A T-cup Yorkie, very sweet and already wants to be in my arms all the time, he is on my lap and trying to climb my arm now as I type this. His tongue is always sticking out!

A Basset Hound x Beagle or something like that... Male and very good looking and friendly!

A Border Collie, calm and we think he's a bit older - will let you know further once our vet sees him.

And, last but not least a small Bishon Frisé, very quiet and very cute.

They are all scared but are coming out of that fear already and it's only been a few hours of my famous TLC. So, by the end of the weekend, they will be normal doggies again, not afraid and never will they be neglected again as they have found their loving home tonight and have SURVIVED! We will have them all neutered next week and of course by then they will have had a full week at NARC and feel very comfortable in our loving and friendly environment!

Most of you are unaware of what they go through, not knowing they were abused, neglected, left behind to starve... You don't see these "scared" little faces we see weekly when they arrive, wondering what is next? Where am I? Who is this crazy person - oh she does seem nice!? You see the nice and well behaved dog you adopted from NARC, fully re-habilitated. These dogs will trust us within days or hours, letting humans decide their faith again - why? Because they don't have a VOICE! We opened NARC to become their VOICE - to speak up for them and take them out of a faith they have not selected - that a human decided for them - to discard of them, to move and leave the dog behing without food or water... They are not a toy or a shirt you throw away - are they? Please find it in your heart to help NARC take in more of these poor little babies out of the gaz chambers! We need your donations as we can't help them all otherwise. 6 dogs to me is not enough when I know we've left so many others behind!! New Donation Box - Outdoor Storage Container

I've bought one of those outdoor storage containers and installed it at the front of the property, just besides the front gates for those of you who want to drop off donations at any time! It's marked "NARC Donation Drop Off" and we check it a few times daily so feel free to leave your donations in them! We get a lot of calls from people wanting to come during the week so now you can! Although there may not be a volunteer on site as we work mostly evenings and weekends to serve our customers, we are always looking for new ways to service you as best we can and of course it helps out our doggies in the process. The container is quite large, would say 4 ft wide by 2ft deep and 3ft high so it will fit larger items. You can leave dog food, treats, doggy items (beds, blankets, toys...), crates, garage sale items for those wanting to get rid of some small household items, we do take them for our annual garage sales yearly - it certainly helps us in raising funds!

Thank you to those that have already left your blankets, towels, etc...in our new container, we're glad it's working out for you and not only have we received your items, they are great and will be much used! Also a big thanks to those that have left items at our Vet's for NARC before we had the container, we've picked them up and the doggies are enjoying their new blankets, beds and toys!

Sunday's KHS Walkathon

Although it was a rainy and windy day in Kingston, we were well dressed with good waterproof shoes and had a good day... We were lucky that Starbucks had an extra tent to lend NARC or we would have been very wet! Now this is something we need to invest in - a good tent for events!!! Overall, we really enjoyed our time there, it was a good day, we met tons of new people and saw a few of our doggies which was very nice. We were set up besides Kareen which is a client who took one of our puppy mill dogs named Lulu a few years back and also did some volunteer driving for NARC. Kareen has now set shop named Kingston Animal Rescue and we are very happy to have another rescue out there to call a friend - keep up the good work Kareen and we are here if you need us!

A quieter NARC

Wow, it's been quite the summer with 50-60 all the time... now down to 25! Most of the puppies have found wonderful homes, only 4 left for adoption. Page, my wonderful lovely Page has gone to her new home today, I really hope they love her as much as I did - she is such a wonderful dog and it was really hard to part with her! Maya and Sean also found their loving homes after a few months with us.

Chakra, Claude, Jasper and Daisy are still here, awaiting their loving homes. Although Jasper is quite shy with strangers, he is really a good dog so we are hoping someone opens up their homes to him! The others are just too great so no reason to be here and we are sure they will find loving homes quite soon!

Toby needs a special loving and quiet home, he is so shy with people although he is coming around with us - he is still afraid of new people. So skinny although we are really working hard on fattening him up - he is a good boy, certainly not his fault to be this way, just needs more loving to come out of his shell.

Someone gave Bonnie her "chance", she will hopefully come around with her new mommy as she did here with me. She is a wonderful dog so we are sure they will love her even if she showed she was quite afraid when they left with her. We are happy she was given a good chance with a wonderful new mommy to spoil her rotten.

Clyde is much better since Bonnie left, no longer following her around and is now coming around more every day since. He will surely find a loving home as he is quite the dog.

Anyways, better stop yapping - see some of you tomorrow in Kingston!

KHS Walkathon on Sunday

NARC wasn't able to put together their own Walkathon this year since the property is a mess with the new house being built, but next year we will definitely organize one.

Update from the farm

Page, Sean and Maya are going to the vet's tonight so that they can get spayed/neutered tomorrow morning, shots, annual vet check, etc....

Page is certainly going to find a home shortly thereafter as she is just too sweet to be at a rescue. She loves to play with toys and ropes, she will keep herself busy for hours on end!

Sean and Maya are now 6 months old so time to get them altered, although they were available as puppies before, now they won't be available till at least Sunday as they need time to recover.

Bear is still the sweetest boy ever, not a peep from him - ever, he is just so quiet but has started to play with us which is quite nice.

Few doggies still aren't on our website, lack of time to take pictures but we hopefully will make time this weekend to post pictures and bios. Keep looking as we will have updates very soon!

Quite the week!

We met new people at the Navan Fair who came to pick up some of our pooches, one couple in particular has been coming back almost every day/evening to help out at NARC. Wow, they have built shelves in the shed and it just looks amazing - definitely was needed and strong wood shelves won't break with the weight of the dog food bags, etc... There is so much room in there now compared to just enough to get by - what a difference! I don't know what I would do without all my wonderful volunteers, donors, clients and other rescues who always seem to be able to find drivers to bring us our pooches! You guys are the best!

New doggies have come in, they are very sweet and will certainly be up for adoption soon. We have a few issue dogs but are prepared to home them with "special" families only. One is a boston terrier, he likes certain individuals but if he doesn't like you - he just doesn't and could bite or snap. He is perfect here with everyone but then again he knows he can't get away with much here at NARC that is if he doesn't want to spend the day in a crate if punished... He needs someone with doggy experience yet a very quiet home that has little visitors as we would be worried if there were too many visits - what if one of them is un-likable from his point of view. Obviously was not well cared for and he probably will get better and better in time but we are being overly careful.

A black lab aslo is very fearful with strangers, he will growl but if I tell him to be nice and say hello, he will come for some loving but with his tail between his legs. He is perfect here with us and is really a good dog but needs a home without many people and hopefully in the country as I wouldn't see him in the city with all the people on the streets - he would litterally freak out and probably try to escape.

They are not posted on our website as we don't want people calling for them unless they really want to work with them such as we are doing now. If we can't find them good homes, they will remain at NARC for months until we feel 100% secure they are well socialized in every environment and situation.
